Black raspberries and blackberries have already ceased to be exotic in personal plots and garden plots. Such berry crops are successfully grown not only by experienced gardeners, but also by beginner summer residents. Aronia raspberries and blackberries perfectly combine excellent taste, as well as a very attractive and marketable appearance of berries.

Raspberry-blackberry hybrids have become very popular in our country, the cultivation of which is also not too burdensome. Breeders obtained blackberry, black raspberry and blueberry varieties suitable for cultivation in regions with adverse soil and climatic conditions.

Characteristics and differences

Aronia raspberry, of course, differs from blackberry fruits, and has the following characteristic features:

  • The main difference between blackberries is that the receptacle breaks off at the site of attachment to the stem, as a result of which it remains inside the ripe berry;
  • the blackberry has an even and flat edge of the stem part, and the ripe berry has a white core;
  • aronia raspberry, in contrast to aronia, is characterized by a more rounded or hemispherical shape and small receptacle sizes;
  • shoots of aronia raspberries are shorter than stems of aronia raspberries, and they are located closer to the ground;
  • blackberry shoots grow quite high and powerful, reaching a height of 3 m or more;
  • blackberry shoots of green color, have strong and very strong spikes.

In recent years, black-fruited raspberry-like raspberries are increasingly found in garden plots and household plots, and its cultivation is not too different from the cultivation of classical varieties.

Red and aronia raspberries ripen in July, but the timing for harvesting may vary depending on weather conditions in the cultivation region. Blackberries, even very early varieties, ripen somewhat later than raspberries. It is for this reason that it is recommended to plant medium-late and late varieties only in the southern regions, where the berry has time to ripen before the onset of the cold autumn period.

Raspberry-Blackberry Hybrids

Currently, the creation of raspberry-blackberry hybrids is a very promising area of selection of berry plants. One of the most popular and demanded in the conditions of home gardening is the variety "Tabberry". This modern hybrid form is mid-season and forms powerful shrubs, whose height is about one and a half meters.

Black raspberries "Cumberland": features of the variety

The ripened berries are elongated, with an average weight of more than 5 g. Ripe sour-sweet flesh, with a pronounced blackberry aftertaste, is black. Fruiting is stable, annual, occurs in late August and lasts until severe frosts occur. Yields are very high and in conditions of high agricultural technology are about 9.5-10.5 kg of berries from each bush. The hybrid is characterized by insufficient winter hardiness, but is characterized by drought resistance and abundant fruiting.

No less popular is the hybrid form called Loganberry, possessing excellent quality features. The hybrid is distinguished by the absence of spiky shoots, forms large and very tasty berries. Spreading bushes, no more than two meters high, without the formation of root shoots.

Fruiting continues from mid-August until the onset of frost. The average weight of the presentation berry is 9.5-10.5 g, and the total yield indicators reach 9.5-10.5 kg per plant. Reproduction of this hybrid form is possible by planting and rooting of annual shoots, as well as by cuttings. Berry crop care is standard and not too complicated even for beginner gardeners.

Popular varieties

Currently, gardeners are growing several fairly promising and highly productive varieties of aronia raspberries. Despite the fact that they belong to the category of heat-loving, many varieties are perfectly adapted for cultivation in the soil and climatic conditions of central Russia.

Garden neighborhood

Many beginner gardeners are wondering if raspberries can be planted next to blackberries or garden blueberries, and they are also interested in how such a neighborhood can affect the productivity and productivity of berry crops.

According to the observation of specialists and experienced gardeners, black raspberries and blackberries do not form offspring, but form exclusively shoots of substitution, therefore they coexist perfectly in one area in close proximity to each other. Thus, controlling the process of propagation of bushes and caring for berry crops is as easy as possible.

Concerning the neighborhood with blueberries, there are quite conflicting opinions. It is recommended to install special limiters in the ground. To grow blueberries, you need to make a landing pit with acidic soil. If there are limiters, it is possible to plant raspberries and blackberries nearby in the soil with optimal acidity. It should be remembered that blueberries do not respond well to shading that tall blackberries and raspberries can create.

Features of agricultural technology

With proper agricultural technology, garden blackberries are able to grow in one area for a long time, forming exclusively shoots of substitution and not clogging other berry plantings. The agricultural technology of blackberries has very few differences from the cultivation of aronia raspberries. It is very convenient to care for single-row berry plantings. In this case, the standard distance between plants should be 0.7-1 m.

Tabberry: Variety Description

Adult plants should be fixed on trellis structures. It is recommended to bend annual shoots for the winter period to the ground and cover well. High yields and unpretentiousness of these berry crops make it possible to classify aronia raspberries and blackberries as promising for cultivation in the conditions of home gardening.
